Jayla
Age 6
University of Missouri Children's Hospital
Cystic Fibrosis
Jayla begins and ends each day playing with her dolls and watching cartoons. Believe it or not, this is actually part of her daily therapy routine to minimize the effects of cystic fibrosis. Although her condition affects her daily, she realizes it’s just a small part of who she is.
Prone to infections caused by bacteria in her lungs, Jayla has had several stays at the University of Missouri Children’s Hospital battling parainfluenza, pneumonia and other lung infections.
Jayla loves educating others about her condition. In addition to sharing her story with the media, she’s been known to stop complete strangers on the street to teach them about cystic fibrosis and how they can help kids like her. Though small, Jayla is making a big difference with her confidence and enthusiasm.
